Description
As a mixed-media assemblage, Keep a Little Soul builds up personality through small artifacts, mark-making, and an illustrated face. This is a self-portrait that attempts to add to the drawn likeness with subtle touches from a variety of material.
My self-portrait was constructed in response to be included in the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission‘s biannual portrait, which debuted in the Rotunda Gallery at Bethlehem’s City Hall.
My Statement
“This work bonds together my passion for drawing and preference for using discarded scrap wood to make art. I embrace the weathered qualities of the found materials by combining and manipulating them with paint or fire. Including select items from my past shape this self-portrait as a visual story. Through creating art I have grown in confidence, pushing my limits, refined my aesthetic as an artist and learned a lot about myself as a young man.”
